The development of energy-efficient products is not only saving the environment and reducing our dependence on foreign oil but is good for the economy as well. By going green its creating new business opportunities and new jobs.
Our politicians are finally getting on the big green bus and pushing for more tax incentives for the production of renewable energy. Recent tax packages have failed and have put billions of dollars into the pockets of the oil company’s. With this push it will shift that power, and give more to the research and development of new resources.
“It is important for the United States to reduce its dependence on foreign oil and not be a ‘captive buyer’ in the international energy market.” said U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt.
“The production of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies create jobs.” said U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Now I know that the politicians will say anything for a vote, but I personally think it’s gotten to a critical time in our society that someone needs to take action. I’m glad to see that the government is finally standing up and taking its part. Innovation is the key and the federal government should be careful not to over regulate.
The University of California-Berkeley released a study that said the renewable energy sector generates more jobs than fossil fuel-related businesses for every unit of energy produced. This is extremely encouraging for the go green society, we need more of these studies made public.
